As a public speaker, she has addressed many groups. She appears biweekly on a television interview program. An award-winner author, she has been published in Charisma Magazine, Family Circle Magazine, many U.S. newspapers and other national and regional publications.
A former Senior Editor of NewsFront Magazine and Associate Editor of Family Circle Magazine in New York City, Gilliland now lives in the Colorado Rockies with her husband of 34 years, Larry Gilliland. The couple has two grown children. Gilliland is an avid outdoorswoman, a hiker and cross-country skier.
Gilliland has served Jesus Christ since childhood. Active in Christian ministry, she has assisted in the following capacities:
- served as director of a prayer group for 15 years
- founded and directed a pro-life crisis pregnancy center for 15 years
- participated as a member and local board member in Women's Aglow/Lighthouse Fellowship for 20 years
- directed Life in the Spirit Seminars and led Christian youth weekend retreats
- served as a speaker to various Christian groups
